Well what a tragic week it has been. 4 people have died as a result of the terrific rain and subsequent flooding in the north of England. we will be looking at this as an example of why floods happen, what the effects are and how they can be managed.

Boscastle flood

This week we are studying a flood in an MEDC, Boscastle in August 2004.

We will look to find answers:

What happened? Where did it happen? Why did it happen? What were the effects? How can the area be managed?

This week has seen rain causing problems in Northampton as well, read this article from the local paper. In 1998 the Easter floods caused millions of punds worth of damage. Easter flood 1998

We have now moved onto the Water Cycle and will investigate 2 case studies of flooding. What is the water cycle? Watch this advert from Evian – not much to do with the water cycle but fun anyway!
